Customs Operations Manager

Our partner, a global freight forwarding and logistics provider, is seeking a knowledgeable and experienced Customs Operations Manager to lead their customs team in Chicago. With a strong reputation for delivering compliant, efficient, and client-focused international freight solutions, our partner supports global supply chains across air, ocean, and road transport. This role is ideal for a seasoned customs professional ready to take ownership of daily operations and lead a high-performing team in one of the industry's most critical areas.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee day-to-day customs brokerage operations, ensuring full compliance with U.S. Customs & Border Protection (CBP) regulations

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of customs entry specialists and support staff

  • Monitor and improve operational processes to drive speed, accuracy, and customer satisfaction

  • Maintain strong relationships with CBP, PGA agencies, and trade partners to ensure seamless customs clearance

  • Resolve complex entry issues and serve as the escalation point for customs-related matters

  • Support internal departments and clients with guidance on tariff classifications, regulatory updates, and documentation requirements

  • Stay up to date on industry regulations, ACE system changes, and customs modernization initiatives

  • Prepare audits, reports, and performance reviews to support operational transparency and team development

What We're Looking For:

  • 5+ years of experience in U.S. customs brokerage and international trade compliance

  • Current U.S. Customs Broker License is highly preferred

  • Strong leadership and team management skills

  • In-depth knowledge of Harmonised Tariff Schedule (HTS), import regulations, and PGA requirements

  • Familiarity with ACE, ABI systems, and customs entry software

  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and analytical abilities

  • Strong attention to detail and ability to manage multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment
